This tree stands along a rode near the village of Chaumont, about 11 Km south of Bastogne. The tanks of the 81st Tank Battalion passed through this area and bivouaced at Givron on the evening of 4 September, 1944. Short on fuel, some of the tanks ran out of gas just before reaching the bivouac area.
